per Kovels - modern reproduction, copied from a 6-inch ABC plate made in 1893 by Bryce, Higbee & Co. of Pittsburgh. ABC plates, also called children's alphabet plates, were popular from the late 1700s through the late 1800s. They were made of pottery, porcelain, metal or glass, and were intended to be subtle teaching aids.
